Dive maps for Miri

August 4, 2009

Dive maps for Miri reefs in small size slates are available for sale. They fit in the palm of your hand, hence your pockets or tucked under the sleeve of your wet suite. With this, you can find where you are, know where you dive and explore the reefs properly! The maps has contour lines so you know how far you can go for  your level of certification.

Miri has over 20 dive sites (believe it or not!) and a couple of very interesting wrecks. More dive sites are being discovered as we venture out into the blue to explore and dive the ‘less plunged sites’.

Here is a quick and dirty photo of the dive map. We have all of the popular dive sites plus the lesser known ones.  They are currently available in the Red Monkey dive center and at the Piasau Boat Club. Drop me an email for queries.

Photos in AlaMak!

July 13, 2009

Hi all,

Sharky Jones’ photos of Miri Underwater is exhibited in AlaMak cafe, there are about 10-12 framed photographs displyed on the left wall of the cafe. These photos are available for sale with or without the frames and in various sizes. We do the printing ourselves so we can be sure of the quality and colour calibration. Framing is done by our favorite local framing shop and we can help you with that too! If you are interested in any of the photos on the fall, contact us directly or enquire at the shop.

The cafe is owed by our friends Mala and Hatta, they are divers themselves and have been diving in Miri. Kudos to them for starting up the cafe and tell you what, its great food too! If you;ve never been there suggest the house special, Briyani rice. Not too spicy, toned down to the local and ‘mat salleh’ taste I was told! But if you want to be brave, ask Mala for her sambal! The cafe is nicely decoed with marble tables solid wood chairs, it opens from 11am onwards! Where is it? Its in Piasau, opposite the shell station, Ground floor, Piasau Commercial Center, Jalan Sekolah Anchi, Off jalan Datuk Edward Jeli.

Mission Possible – Cleaning up a coral reef

May 12, 2009

Miri is a town in Malaysian borneo, it is an unknown dive destination with some beautiful reefs. Unfortunately from time to time fishing nets get lost, this is the story of a group of divers removing nets from the reef. Miri and the N. Sarawak / Brunei coast has some wonderful reefs. This project was in concert with Shell’s “Project Better World” and the Piasau Boat Club.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Underwater Miri – ‘life below the muck’ catalog in progress

Front page of Underwater Miri

I’m in the midst of completing the catalogue of about 30 or so photos of Miri’s diving destinations and its neptunic inhabitants. The catalog will be readied for printing and distribution to various locations in about 2 weeks from this posting date. This will enable you to sample the photos but will also be entertaining and informative on its own as the catalog has been fashioned like a book and each photo comes with a caption which provides relevant information about the site and the subject matter. This is ideal for dive centers or any other agencies out to promote Miri diving and to top it up, you should have a framed photo of Miri’s hidden treasures in the seas. We can help you with the framing too if you need to purchase photos for your wall.

Details on how you can purchase the photos will also be included in the catalog. You will also be able to view these photos in flickr (I will post it here too once it is set up properly), state the # and title if you are interested in purchasing this and email me at rawborneo(at)gmail.com.

If you are interested in a copy of the catalog, please email me at rawborneo(at)gmail.com. Don’t be daft and not remember to replace the (at) with the right symbol. More later! Till then Aramaiti! the night is young!
